KICK START - Motorcycling Excellence
All instruction is provided by fully trained and qualified staff that hold DSA certification to at least the level of course being conducted

The course fees cover everything, including test fees where appropriate. The only exception is your lunch money - please bring some!

Our "off road" training is undertaken in the safe environment of St Vincent College, Gosport.

CBT  (CBT and 125cc Bike - talk to us for special prices -           various models available)

You will need to complete CBT if:

  • you want to ride a moped (a moped has an engine not over 50 cc with maximum design speed not exceeding 50 kilometres per hour (km/h) which is approximately 31 miles per hour)
  • you want to ride a motorcycle

If you obtained your car licence before 1 February 2001 you do not need to complete a CBT to ride a moped.

What does CBT involve?
The CBT  involves five elements:
A. introduction
B. practical on-site training
C. practical on-site riding
D. practical on-road training
E. practical on-road riding
The five elements have to be completed in sequence, although the order of the exercises within the element can be varied. You will only move on to the next element when your instructor is satisfied you have learnt the necessary theory and demonstrated the practical skills to a safe basic level. Trainees must, by law, receive a minimum two hour on-road ride in Element E.

We strongly recommend that you read the 'Highway Code', we will ask questions!!
It is no defence in law to say 'I haven't read it'!!

If you are looking to be riding a geared bike, do NOTturn up in flimsy plimsolls - motorcycle boots, Doc Martens, combat boots etc please.

The CBT starts at 9am prompt and we aim to finish for 3pm/4pm (doesn't always work out that way though!!).

CBT PLUS
For that extra confidence, in addition to the CBT, we offer the opportunity to spend a day on road with an instructor. In the course of the day, we will consolidate and enhance the skills gained in the CBT.

AND ON TO TEST

Category P, the practical test can be taken on a moped.

Sub-category A1, the practical test must be taken on a bike of between 75cc and 125cc.

Category A, the practical test is taken on a bike of between 121cc and 125cc and capable of at least 100kph. After passing the standard motorcycle practical test you will be restricted for two years to riding a bike of up to 25kW and a power/weight ratio not exceeding 0.16kW/kg. After this you may ride any size of bike.

Direct Access (At age 21 and above)
Those who do not already hold a full motorcycle licence may, after taking CBT and the Theory Test, if necessary, take the practical test on a motorcycle with a power output of at least 35kW. A pass will allow you to ride any size of bike.
All or part of the CBT course may be taken on either a learner bike or a large bike.
You may practise for the practical test on bikes larger than the learner bike specification provided:
  • You are accompanied at all times by a qualified instructor on another bike and in radio contact.
  • You wear fluorescent or reflective clothing and follow all other provisional licence restrictions.

Accelerated Access
Riders who already hold a full licence and reach age 21 while still within the two year restricted period and wish to ride bikes larger than 25kW, may practise and take a further test on a large bike.
The same test and practise conditions for Direct Access riders will apply.

Refresher (Back to Bikes)
For those returning to motorcycling, why not spend a day with a senior instructor to help blow away those cobwebs and rebuild your confidence with a friendly helping hand.

Motorway/Night Riding
Having just passed your test doesn't necessarily put you in the best position to tackle these particular situations. We have the skills and experience to assist you to learn how to - safely.

Advanced
Want to improve your skills further? We have instructors who hold an Institute of Advanced Motorcyclist qualification, having been assessed by a police class 1 motorcyclist and who can help you become a more confident and safer rider. Developing enhanced observation skills utilising amongst other things, the likes of correct road positioning etc.

If you are happy with the training provided, the staff and have any comments for us, good or bad, please feel free to email those comments to us
